A recent survey by the World Gold Council highlights a growing trend of gold ownership among North American professional investors. With 85% of respondents now holding some form of gold investment—up from 69% in 2018—gold's appeal as a portfolio diversifier and inflation hedge is well-recognized. More than half of the surveyed investors hold at least 1% of their assets in gold.
Despite some underestimating its long-term returns and liquidity, over a quarter plan to increase their gold allocations in the next 12-18 months, driven by economic and geopolitical uncertainties. Misconceptions about gold’s liquidity and institutional adoption persist, but increased awareness could further boost investment.
